Release life cycle

Starting with version 3.0.0, OpenSSL adopted a versioning scheme formatted as MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH.

Release strategy: Long-Term Support (LTS) vs. non-LTS releases:

• LTS Releases:
  • Supported for at least five years
  • with a new LTS version designated at least every two years.
• Non-LTS Releases:
  • Supported for a minimum of 13 months (from 3.5 onwards).

The diagram below shows planned releases of the OpenSSL Library with their respective release dates.

Note: Release dates are subject to change.
